MHP Deputy Yusuf Ziya İrbeç Criticises the Government, CHP and his own party

A NEW DEMOCRATIC REORGANIZATION is a MUST

Yusuf Ziya İrbeç, MHP Deputy for Antalya said that the current political structure in Turkey could not keep pace with the rapid changes in the country. “Turkish politics is now confronted with the necessity of a new political structure. From now on, the solution cannot be possible by solely apologizing. But, being sensitive to the demands of participatory democracy and freedom can be a major part of the solution.”

Nationalist Movement Party Antalya Deputy İrbeç said that the acts of vandalism images in Gezi Park are because of the government’s approach to them. İrbeç pointed out that the Prime Minister Erdoğan has forgotten his role to act as a Prime Minister and makes provocative speeches.

“The Prime Minister is the greatest provocateur and he should immediately stop the rhetoric and polemics. Prime Minister’s incompetent cadres are in a state of “bewilderment”, do not know what to do. It is incredible to see that they genuinely believe in talking to Hülya Avşar will solve the problem. Government agencies and the police have never ever been so frazzled and the State has lost all of its gains. It is also a major blow to the commercial life. The effects of this blow will continue for years to come”.

THE POLITICAL CARNIVAL – CHP AND MHP

“While Erdoğan’s rallies are live coverage on each channel, the reactions of hundreds of thousands which last till the mornings are not even in the news. And sure enough, the creation of an opposite atmosphere is made by the pressure from the Prime Minister himself. Today, people in the streets are walking against Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s dictatorship style of administration. You cannot go against people’s will” said İrbeç, also criticized the main opposition party, the CHP and his own party, the MHP. “Everyone in the streets describes CHP as an analogy of “the car that follows the ambulance”. On the other hand, it is not possible to understand what MHP is doing. MHP’s attitude is like a carnival in politics. This situation demonstrates that there is a clear need of restructuring in the Turkish politics.

CURRENT POLITICAL STRUCTURE is OUTDATED,
RESTRUCTURING is a “MUST”

MHP Deputy İrbeç emphasized that the current political structure is entirely outdated. “The justification of this case is so obvious that it has brought together a combination of very different political approaches to a common point. Against these developments, all the political parties have failed to understand the dynamism of the society. This is not something to be taken under control by political statements and distractions. Today, people in the streets stopped all the conflicts. By yesterday, those people who are party to the political parties severed ties with their own parties. The reactions of these people have been so wide and so great against the current administration’s over a decade long ruling that without accepting any party and any radical group they were forced to raise their voices only in the streets. What else could they do? They have got neither any security forces at hand for their protection nor got power like a government? They did what is the last resort for them and one can see their determination in their beliefs in every occasion. This has been approved by everyone. The issue is not a matter of two trees. This is the last straw. Reactions are against the decade long ruling trait.

In a large area of freedom, this great democratic platform has been evolved itself where everyone finds a place. This sociological analysis is a clear proof of why the existing political structures are over. Today, more than 35 million people under the age of 30 can no longer continue with the existing political parties. The creation of new political movement in Turkey can be shaped within a very short time and will emerge as a cadre movement instead of a leader. From now on these events will not be stoppable. Any form of use of violence will not bring any benefits to the members of the ruling party. However, it increases the perceptions of the unfair and unlawful practices against the nation. Current status is already beyond the apologizing stage. Today, it has a completely different dimension and has a lot more to do with the system’s sustainability. Unlawful practices placed Prime Minister Erdoğan in the same frame with his long condemning old friend Assad.”

VIOLENCE and AMBITION to be VICTORIOUS are not the SOLUTION

We all know that a large number of people who, including Members of the Parliament, bureaucrats, businessman even the press are under the pressure of a leader, cannot raise their voices but understand the uprising of the people and join to agree with them. As a result of this kind of pressure even my press conference is not broadcasted on any TV channels.

Indeed, the current generation is fully capable of using technology to the best, self-conscious and capable of organizing themselves will not give credit to the outdated solution proposals.

PRESS CONFERENCE

Prof. Dr. Yusuf Ziya Irbec
Deputy for Antalya
Turkish Parliament, June 12, 2013, 11.00 a.m.

Dear Members of the Press, Distinguished Representatives of our Media,

Today, I am here to tell the truth as an expression of  my love for our great nation rather than as a Member of Parliament.

In recent years, we have all witnessed and are still experiencing the negative consequences of policies to differentiate our nation.

I thought for a while how we got to this point. I looked at what happened earlier on and remembered the main reason when I resigned from that party. It was just because of their segregation policies.

The Prime Minister and members of the government constantly addressed the people with hard and segregate speeches.

It is a clear discrimination if a Prime Minister says that we are the servants of 76 percent of voters.

He cannot call those protestors “marauders or looters” whom I would consider are merely seeking for the rights and freedoms. He is the one who says “we shall not be afraid of the freedom of thoughts” and keep calling those people “marauders or looters” that are expressing their own opinion against his.

The Prime Minister cannot call anyone as “the game builders or the trap setters” and declare them as “traitors” who did not like his policies.

I wish to make a remark in history at this point both as a scientist and politician:

Lack of leadership skills unfortunately led to a high number of injuries and some deaths in a crisis of this magnitude. I wish to pass my condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives during these incidents, namely, the Police Commissioner Mustafa Sari, Abdullah Comert and Mehmet Ayvalitas. I also wish a speedy recovery to those who were injured.

The Prime Minister says that his trait as a leader is democratic but when it comes to practice he is distinguishably authoritarian. He talks about the freedom of the press and freedom of thoughts, plenty of words without any practice.

Let me give you an example. Please have a look at the seven biggest newspapers’ headlines published on Friday June 7, 2013 and their contents. They are word by word exactly the same. Can this be called enlightening the people? How sad it is that the people in Turkey have started following foreign press in order to find out what is going on in their own country.

Communication and the flow of information are forced to be taken under complete control just like in the autocratic regimes.

The Prime Minister wants to be the Constitution himself. The protesters in Taksim draw attention to the first three articles of the Constitution with a banner, which states the following cases exactly:

1) Cannot be changed, 2) cannot be amended, and 3) nor can their amendment be proposed.

The same attitude is also reflected in the Prime Minister’s speeches: “If you perceive this as hardness, I am sorry but Erdogan will not change” says Erdogan. “If you continue to do what you are doing we will respond you with the language you understand.”

The renowned Ottoman poet, late Ziya Pasha wrote the following two lines as if he saw these days well over a century ago.

“It does not need for understand  great ideas to this small mind,
for as much as this scale cannot measure weight of this heaviness.”

Imagine a Prime Minister who tries to bring in restrictions to “twitter”, one of the world’s most used internet site, in a country like Turkey where the number of internet users are constantly ranking the country at the top of the list in the world.

What we want in Turkey on the other hand is to look at the future with confidence, enlarged freedoms, and not insulting our people and youth.

We want an honest and down to earth prime minister in this country who embraces everyone away from the self-centred mentality.

We do not want any Brutus around the Prime Minister. We want them to contribute to extinguish the fire. Those who are saying that the Turkish Prime Minister is not an easy target to swallow should be reminded that these people are merely trying to seek their deserved rights.

Now it is time to face the facts. The Prime Minister and his surrounding Brutusses should give up the tendency to show the country as a land of marauders or looters.

The Prime Minister adds further fuel to the fire with his actions and discourses which increase the current polarization gap wider in the country. While the ruling party is in this state of thoughtlessness, the opposition parties have unfortunately also failed in the same test. Nationalists who clearly express that Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) is expected to be more actively involved in the conduct of Gezi Park.

Who will support and defend the idealistic young people in Gezi Park?

Please have a look at the intervention system in Turkey, especially in Taksim last night.

The same logic was also dominated in the beginning of these events. The civil police vehicles did not have any license plates, or the serial numbers of riot police on their helmets were all covered not to be notified.

Spiked sticks are used in Izmir while cars without license plates are used in Ankara. Where is the Prime Minister and what is he preparing for? Are you going to order driving those vehicles that have no license plates on to the crowd?

It is important to notice that the biggest danger will come after the 20th day of these protests as “time” is the greatest provocateur at this type of actions.

The events will particularly come to a point that cannot be controlled about the 20th and 25th days onward. The biggest responsibility hangs on the shoulders of the ruling party if we do not want this country like a house on fire and to completely lose control over these events. It is extremely dangerous to silence the activists with some government supporting crowds, just like the method of spilling petrol in the streets. The main thing here is to accept the method of confrontation with reality, not to choose the collision method.

You are already the ruling party in this country. Why do you choose such aggressive methods to face these protestors? You have all what you may need as power and strength. Why do you need such a show of strength? It only increases the tensions.

We might look for a proper governing staff as people in charge do not possess sought after skill sets and their advisors lack the consultative skills.

When major events emerge nobody should look for an excuse such as there were some provocateurs or excuses to hide themselves behind from abroad originated rioted roots. I am warning and filing up a criminal complaint. Government administrators who cannot manage anything properly will be held responsible in first degree from irreparable damages to the public.

Let us have a look at some examples from the other countries. Prosecutors should take actions against users of misconduct and I still strongly believe in this country’s prosecutors.

Yours respectfully.

PRESS INTERVIEW PUBLISHED IN MILLIYET AND VATAN Newspapers

Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) MP’s Rebel against the Leader Devlet Bahceli’s (Taksim) Gezi Park Decision

Yusuf Ziya Irbec, MHP Member of Parliament (MP) for Antalya says “we shall not leave nationalists alone in Gezi Park”

MHP Antalya MP Yusuf Ziya Irbec has provoked a particularly strong reaction to the Leader of MHP Devlet Bahceli’s attitude regarding the demonstrations in Taksim’s Gezi Park. Irbec said “nationalists clearly express that MHP is expected to be more actively involved in the conduct of Gezi Park. Who will support and defend the idealistic young people in Gezi Park?”

Irbec said that we are experiencing the negative consequences of the current government’s policies toward differentiating the nation in the recent years. Irbec evaluated the present situation to Milliyet Newspaper as in the following:

“They interfered into the people’s bedrooms and the dinner tables, wiped out T.C. (abbreviations for the Republic of Turkey), distributed the tablet PCs, but declared “twitter as the new nuisance”. Where are human rights and fundamental freedoms as well as respect for private and family life? You will come across this conclusion if you constantly interfere with people’s lives and establish barriers to their free thoughts. What is currently happening in Taksim now are the consequences of the wrong policies of the government. The streets have become explosion fields for people since they are fed up with putting up extreme harsh behaviours of the police forces, constantly being told off with an insulting attitude, not being able to move freely, not being regarded as human beings. There is a saying in Anatolia as “you cannot have a straight walking stick out of a twisted tree.” Similarly, it is not democracy if these reactions are not absorbed correctly.”

We need to steer away from the self-centred leaders and their cronies in our politics. Today, the country is like a house on fire but the ruling members are enjoying their lives in the kebab houses, the Prime Minister adds further fuel to the fire with his actions and discourses which increase the current polarization gap wider in the country. While the ruling party is in this state of thoughtlessness, the opposition parties have unfortunately also failed in the same test.”

The Danger Emerges 20 Days Later

Since the beginning of these events the civil police vehicles do not have license plates, or the serial numbers of riot police on their helmets. Spiked sticks are used in Izmir while cars without license plates are used in Ankara. Where is the Prime Minister? It is important to notice that the biggest danger will come after the 20th day of these protests. “Time” is the greatest provocateur at this type of actions. The events will particularly come to a point that cannot be controlled about the 20th and 25th days onward. The biggest responsibility hangs on the shoulders of the ruling party if we do not want this country like a house on fire and to completely lose control over these events. It is time for the Prime Minister to act like a real Prime Minister now, a prudent act that is essential to listen to the voice of those activists. The ruling party must find a solution. It is extremely dangerous to silence the activists with some government supporting crowds, just like the method of spilling petrol in the streets. The main thing here is to accept the method of confrontation with reality, not to choose the collision method. From now on, no one in this country should play politics with anyone’s headscarf or prayer.

YENİ BİR DEMOKRATİK YAPILANMA ARTIK ZORUNLU

Hükümeti, CHP’yi ve partisini eleştiren MHP Milletvekili Yusuf Ziya İrbeç;
